HUMAN DISCERNMENT

by Yessica Jennings

Section Nine: Choosing Your Own Script ✍️

Because it’s time to stop running on Abuelita Windows 95. 💻

By now, you’ve exposed the trash, laughed at the scripts, and maybe cried at the weight of it all. But here’s the turning point: you don’t have to keep running the program you inherited.

Abuelita Software 1.0 came pre-installed—marriage, kids, college, boundaries, guilt—but it’s 2025, and it’s time for an upgrade. Think of this chapter as the Family iOS Update. 📱✨

⸻

Classic “Abuelita Software” — Life Scripts Edition 📝

⸻

“That’s just how it’s always been.” 🙄

•Translation: Nobody ever questioned it, so you shouldn’t either.

•The fear: Change = danger.

•👵 Boomers: Guarded tradition like it was Fort Knox. 🏰

•👩‍🦱 Millennials/Gen X: Questioned it quietly, in therapy. 🛋️

•🧑‍🎤 Gen Z: “Just because it’s always been that way doesn’t mean it’s not stupid.” 😂

⸻

“What will people say?” 👀

•Translation: Approval is survival.

•The fear: Rejection = exile = doom.

•👵 Boomers: Lived their whole lives for the neighbors’ opinion. 🏘️

•👩‍🦱 Millennials/Gen X: Still hear that voice every time they want to do something bold.

•🧑‍🎤 Gen Z: “People will say I’m slaying, and they’d be right.” 💅✨

⸻

“Don’t rock the boat.” 🚤

•Translation: Keep the peace, even if you drown.

•The fear: Conflict = danger, rebellion = chaos.

•👵 Boomers: Sat in silence while chaos roared under the surface.

•👩‍🦱 Millennials/Gen X: Developed ulcers from keeping the peace. 🥴

•🧑‍🎤 Gen Z: “Rock the boat? I’m flipping it over and making a TikTok about it.” 📱😂

⸻

🌙 The Pattern Beneath It All

•Scripts = survival maps for another time.

•The problem? They’re outdated, heavy, and don’t fit the world we’re in now.

•Following them blindly = drowning in someone else’s expectations.

⸻

💎 The Break in the Chain

It’s 2025. We get to write our own software update.

•“My script doesn’t have to match yours.”

•“My value isn’t based on following rules that never made sense.”

•“I don’t need the neighbors’ approval to live my life.”

💎 New mantra: “I am the author of my own script.” ✍️

⸻

🌙 Reflection Exercise: The Family Software Update 2.0 📱

1.What old script do you need to uninstall?

(“Don’t rock the boat 🚤,” “What will people say 👀,” “That’s just how it’s always been 🙄.”)

2.What new script do you want to install?

(“Peace is better than perfection.” “Boundaries are love.” “Success is joy, not approval.”)

3.What three values will define YOUR family software update?

Think of them as your personal “Holy Trinity” of 2025. (Example: Freedom 🕊️, Creativity 🎨, Joy 😄.)

⸻

🌹 Special Dedication

This section I dedicate to every cycle-breaker brave enough to delete the old code and write a new one.

To the daughters who dared to be “selfish.”

To the sons who said, “I won’t be like him.”

To the mothers and fathers who chose peace over perfection.

And to you, dear reader: may your new script set you free—and may future generations thank you for the update. 💻✨

One response to “Section Nine: Choosing Your Own Script  – Guide 2”

  1. reading this part really hit me. It’s wild how much of what we do comes from scripts we didn’t even choose. Honestly, I’m feeling motivated to actually pause and reflect on what “updates” I want in my life, and how I can model that for the team too. It’s empowering, and a little scary, but in the best way.
