Eventually becoming yourself creates an uncomfortable problem:
People can see you.
And once people can see you, they can judge you.
Welcome to the arena. đ
Some people will think youâre brilliant.
Others will think youâre ridiculous.
Somebody somewhere will misunderstand you with extraordinary confidence.
Let them.
You arenât here to become universally digestible.
That doesnât mean ignoring feedback or believing youâre always right.
Quite the opposite.
A secure person can ask:
Is there something useful here?
If yes, learn.
If no, release it.
You donât need to fight everyone who doesnât understand your movie.
Theyâre probably busy starring in theirs.
đ„ Youâve Seen This Before: Mulan â Mulan
Mulan begins inside a role already written for her.
There are expectations about what she should be.
How she should behave.
Where she belongs.
Then circumstances force her outside that script.
And she discovers abilities nobody around her had made room for.
Not because she magically became somebody else.
Because circumstances finally demanded parts of her that had been there all along.
Thatâs what makes becoming visible frightening.
The world gets to react.
Some people wonât like the new character.
But perhaps she isnât new at all.
Perhaps youâre simply meeting more of her.
