HUMAN DISCERNMENT

by Yessica Jennings

❤️ SECTION TEN: WELCOME HOME

(aka… you’ve been searching for yourself in places you were never going to find you 😏)

Can I tell you…

what I think is one of the biggest misunderstandings about personal growth?

We spend years trying…

to become someone.

…

When maybe…

we were always trying to remember someone.

❤️

Not the version of you…

that learned to survive.

Not the version…

that kept everyone happy.

Not the version…

that became whoever the room needed.

The one…

that existed before fear started negotiating your personality.

🌊 You Were Never the Ocean

Remember where we started?

The ocean.

The waves.

The storms.

The emotional lifeguard whistles.

The shark your nervous system kept insisting was still following you…

even though it retired five chapters ago.

🤣

For a long time…

it felt like the ocean defined you.

But here’s something beautiful.

You were never the ocean.

You were the person…

learning how to swim.

There’s a difference.

And once you understand that…

something changes forever.

Because storms…

stop becoming your identity.

They simply become…

weather.

🌦️

🏡 Home Was Never a Place

Most of us think home is:

A city.

A relationship.

A career.

A family.

A zip code.

A kitchen where every Tupperware container magically has its matching lid.

(Which, let’s be honest…

is one of humanity’s most unrealistic expectations.)

🤣

No.

Home…

is the place inside yourself…

where you no longer have to perform.

Where your nervous system finally exhales.

Where your values…

your boundaries…

your laughter…

your weirdness…

and your peace…

all get to live together.

Without arguing.

Well…

mostly.

You’re still human.

😂

🎒 Thank the Person Who Carried You Here

Before we keep walking…

I think someone deserves a thank you.

Not your boss.

Not your therapist.

Not your parents.

Not even me.

You.

The version of you…

that kept going…

when it would’ve been easier to quit.

The version that somehow kept functioning…

while your nervous system opened seventeen browser tabs every morning…

all titled:

“Potential Disaster.”

🤣

The version that cried…

and kept walking.

The version that kept choosing healing…

even when nobody else understood why.

The version that kept whispering…

“There has to be a better way to live than this.”

There was.

And you found it.

❤️

🌱 You Don’t Have to Go Back

There will be days…

when chaos starts flirting with you again.

😏

It’ll text you things like:

“Hey stranger…”

“Remember me?”

“I’ve changed.”

😂

No, Chaos.

You haven’t.

Blocked.

🤣

There will also be people…

who invite you back into old roles.

Old guilt.

Old patterns.

Old expectations.

Smile.

Wish them well.

Keep walking.

Because familiarity…

isn’t always an invitation.

Sometimes…

it’s just a memory.

😂 The GPS Has Been Recalculated

Humans are fascinating.

We spend years saying,

“I just want peace.”

Then…

the moment life gets peaceful…

our brain quietly whispers,

“This feels suspicious.”

“Should we create a problem?”

Brain:

“I’ve already drafted three.”

🤣🤣

Apparently…

inner peace feels so unfamiliar…

that we immediately assume…

we’ve forgotten something.

You didn’t.

You just stopped carrying everyone else’s emotional furniture.

Your back thanks you.

🪞 The Mirror Looks Different Now

If you’ve made it this far…

I hope something happens…

the next time you look in the mirror.

Not that you see someone perfect.

Please don’t.

Perfect people sound exhausting.

😅

I hope you recognize the person looking back.

Maybe…

for the first time in years.

Not because they’ve changed into someone new.

Because they’ve finally stopped hiding.

And if you ever figure life out completely…

please write Guide Seven.

Then explain to the rest of us…

why we walk into the kitchen…

forget why we’re there…

walk back out…

remember…

walk back in…

and somehow leave with a spoon.

🤣

Apparently…

that’s just part of being human.

🌞 The Shore Was Never the End

Remember when we thought…

the goal…

was getting out of the ocean?

It wasn’t.

The goal…

was building a life so peaceful…

that you stop looking back…

wondering if you should’ve stayed in the water.

Not surviving.

Living.

Not proving.

Belonging.

Not becoming.

Remembering.

❤️ One Last Thing

If nobody has told you lately…

let me be the one.

I’m proud of you.

Not because you became perfect.

Honestly…

if perfection were the goal…

humans would’ve been discontinued several software updates ago.

😂

I’m proud of you…

because somewhere along this journey…

you made one quiet decision.

You decided…

that surviving…

was no longer enough.

And that decision…

changed everything.

🌿 Final Reflection

One day…

someone will meet you…

and they’ll think,

“You seem so comfortable being yourself.”

They won’t see the ocean.

They won’t see the storms.

They won’t see the nights you questioned everything.

They won’t know about the imaginary arguments you won…

while showering.

Or the text message you analyzed…

like it was an FBI investigation.

🤣

They’ll simply meet…

the person who kept swimming…

until they found home.

And maybe…

you’ll quietly smile.

Because you’ll know something they don’t.

You didn’t find home.

You built it.

One choice.

One boundary.

One laugh.

One tear.

One imperfect day…

at a time.

So…

welcome home.

We’ve been waiting for you.

❤️🏡
