HUMAN DISCERNMENT

SECTION THREE: THE ILLUSIONS THAT KEEP US TRAPPED

(or: The Emotional Optical Illusions That Make You Choose the Wrong People Over and Over Again)

Before people learn how to love, many spend years — sometimes decades — trapped in relationship illusions so convincing they deserve an Oscar, a CGI budget, and their own Marvel franchise.

These illusions are powerful, seductive, and ridiculously expensive in emotional currency.

They determine:

•who we choose,

•who we tolerate,

•who we chase,

•and who we keep long past their expiration date like emotional leftovers you refuse to throw out. 🍱💀

If Section Two was “Who You Really Are,”

then Section Three is:

“Why You Keep Picking the Wrong People… and defending them like a lawyer on payroll.”

Let’s begin.

⸻

🌫️ ILLUSION 1 — The Illusion of the Perfect Other

“If I find the right person, everything will fall into place.”

Incorrect.

People don’t transform into saints when “the right person” arrives.

They transform into more amplified versions of themselves:

•Healthy people become healthier.

•Unhealed people become unhinged.

•Avoidant people become Houdini — now you see them, now you don’t. 🧙‍♂️💨

•Clingy people become emotional octopuses wrapping eight arms around your sanity. 🐙

The perfect person doesn’t fix you.

You choose better once YOU become better at choosing.

⸻

💄 ILLUSION 2 — The Illusion of Outer Beauty

“If I’m attractive enough, they’ll treat me well.”

Ah yes… the delulu era.

People spend billions on skincare, hair, nails, gym memberships, Botox, fillers, and 75 filters per selfie…

and forget the one thing that actually determines compatibility:

Character.

Beauty attracts interest.

Character sustains a relationship.

You cannot contour your way to loyalty.

You cannot highlight your way to empathy.

You cannot Photoshop your way to emotional availability. 🤳✨

Attraction opens the door.

Integrity lets you stay inside.

⸻

🔄 ILLUSION 3 — The Illusion of Compatibility

“We get along so well… we must be soulmates.”

Compatibility is not:

•liking the same shows

•laughing at the same memes

•sharing snacks

•talking for hours like a teenage novella

That’s called chemistry + comfort + a sprinkle of delusion.

Real compatibility is:

•Can we solve problems together?

•Do we speak the same emotional language?

•Are our attachment styles compatible or are we reenacting a soap opera?

•Can we grow without destroying each other?

•Do we want the same life?

•Do we rest in each other’s presence, or are we both exhausted?

No Spotify playlist will fix mismatched values. 🎧🚫

⸻

❤️‍🩹 ILLUSION 4 — The Illusion That “Love Is Enough”

“If we love each other, we can make it through anything.”

This illusion has taken out entire generations like an emotional plague.

Love is NOT enough.

Love does not cure:

•trauma

•inconsistency

•emotional constipation

•avoidant behavior

•lying

•neglect

•addiction

•instability

•incompatible life paths

Love is a foundation.

But if the walls are dysfunctional,

the house still collapses. 🏚️

People stay in toxic relationships because they believe love will eventually fix everything.

It won’t.

Love doesn’t heal dysfunction.

Self-awareness does.

Boundaries do.

Therapy does.

Accountability does.

⸻

🦸 ILLUSION 5 — The Illusion of “Fixing” or “Saving”

“If I love them enough, they’ll change.”

This illusion is especially addictive for empathic, nurturing, “I can fix broken souls with my bare hands” types.

Let’s be clear:

You cannot fix someone by:

•loving them harder

•giving more

•sacrificing your sanity

•mothering them

•waiting for their potential to wake up

•lowering your standards to the floor

•ignoring your intuition

•or acting like their unpaid emotional life coach

You are not their savior.

You are supposed to be their partner.

If you’re acting like a therapist, a parent, a coach, or a probation officer…

that’s not a partner.

That’s a project. 🔧💀

And projects don’t kiss well.

(They also don’t show improvement.)

⸻

🔮 ILLUSION 6 — The Illusion of the “Perfect Complement”

“I need someone who completes me.”

Absolutely not.

Relationships are not jigsaw puzzles. 🧩

You are not missing pieces —

you are missing self-discovery.

Two incomplete people do not make a whole.

They make trauma algebra:

½ person + ½ person = 2 confused humans sharing one nervous system.

Healthy relationships are:

whole person + whole person = synergy ✨

NOT

half + half = chaos

You don’t need someone who completes you.

You need someone who matches you.

⸻

🍿 ILLUSION 7 — The Illusion of Shared Tastes = Shared Life

“We like the same shows… therefore destiny.”

No.

I’m so sorry.

But no. 😭

Someone liking your favorite:

•food

•playlist

•Netflix series

•Instagram aesthetic

•childhood cartoon

does NOT mean they’re compatible.

It means:

•they can binge shows with you 🍿

•they can share snacks

•they can talk about your hobbies

Cute.

Adorable.

But can they:

•apologize without ego?

•show up consistently?

•self-regulate in conflict?

•respect boundaries?

•meet your emotional needs?

•talk like an adult, not a feral raccoon?

Shared interests are fun.

Shared values are destiny.

⸻

🧲 THE REAL TRUTH OF SECTION THREE

Every illusion you’ve ever fallen for was rooted in one thing:

wanting love more than understanding yourself.

Once you know who you truly are,

the illusions collapse.

The fog lifts.

The patterns die.

The chaos stops looking romantic.

And what remains is reality.

And reality — when you are aligned —

is healthier, steadier, and more loving

than any fantasy you’ve ever chased.
