HUMAN DISCERNMENT

by Yessica Jennings

⚖️ SECTION TWO: EMOTIONAL DISCIPLINE

(aka… just because you feel it doesn’t mean you need to act on it immediately)

Let me tell you something…

If you learn how to master this skill—
like really master it—

👉 you become a different kind of person.

Not louder.
Not colder.
Not emotionless.

👉 Just… harder to shake. 😌

The kind of person who:

  • doesn’t get pulled into chaos
  • doesn’t react just because someone else is emotional
  • doesn’t need to prove a point in every moment

And people feel that.

They might not be able to explain it…

👉 but they respect it.

Because there’s something about someone who can feel everything…

👉 and still choose how they respond.

That calm, controlled energy?

👉 that’s a little dangerous—in the best way. 😏🔥

That’s that:

  • Godfather calm
  • Tommy Shelby level presence
  • doesn’t rush, doesn’t react, doesn’t lose themselves energy

Not because they don’t feel…

👉 but because they don’t let every feeling run the show.

And let’s be honest…

👉 that kind of self-control?
It’s a little sexy. 😅

So now…

let’s talk about feelings.

Not the cute ones.
Not the “I’m at peace” ones. 😌

👉 The ones that show up like:

👉 “Say something. Right now. Make it worse.” 😅🔥

Yeah… those.

🧠 Feelings Are Real… But Not Always Accurate

Your emotions are valid.

But also?

👉 they can be a little dramatic. 😅

You can feel:

  • disrespected… when no one actually disrespected you
  • rejected… when someone just hasn’t replied yet
  • attacked… when someone said something completely neutral

Meanwhile your brain is in full novela mode 🎭:

  • “They always do this.”
  • “This is exactly why I don’t trust people.”
  • “I knew it.” 😅

Relax.

👉 Sometimes it’s not betrayal.
Sometimes it’s just… a late text.

⚡ Reaction vs. Response

(aka… don’t ruin your own day)

Reaction is fast.
Loud.
A little unhinged 😅

Response is slower.
Calmer.
Usually less embarrassing 🤣

Reaction says:

👉 “Let me send this message real quick.” 📱🔥

Response says:

👉 “Let me not create a situation I have to emotionally recover from later.” 😌

Because let’s be honest…

👉 you don’t have an emotion problem.

👉 you have a reaction timing problem.

⏳ The 90-Second Rule

(your emotional grace period)

Here’s the part nobody told you:

👉 Most emotional surges last about 90 seconds.

That intense wave of:

  • anger
  • anxiety
  • “I need to say something RIGHT NOW”

It spikes…

…and if you don’t feed it?

👉 it actually starts to calm down.

But what do we do?

We text.
We react.
We over-explain.
We spiral.

👉 we throw gasolina on a fire that was already planning to go out on its own. 😅

🎭 How We Accidentally Make It Worse

You feel something.

Then immediately:

  • you replay it
  • you analyze it
  • you build a whole story around it
  • you check your phone 14 times

Congratulations 🎉

👉 you just turned a 90-second emotion… into a 2-hour mood.

Or a 2-day situation.

Or a “why did I say that” memory
that shows up at 2am for the next 5 years 😭

🧠 Emotional Discipline Is Not Suppression

Let’s be clear.

This is not:

👉 “Don’t feel anything. Be a robot.” 🤖

No.

👉 Feel it.
Just don’t perform it immediately.

You can feel anger…

…without sending a paragraph.

You can feel hurt…

…without making a decision in that moment.

You can feel triggered…

…without turning it into a full event.

👉 That’s discipline.

Not silence.
Not suppression.

👉 Just… timing. ⏳

🛠 Practice

(aka… keep your dignity intact edition 😏)

Next time something hits you sideways:

⏸ Pause 90 Seconds

Don’t fix it.
Don’t analyze it.
Don’t text.

Just sit there like:

👉 “Wow… this is happening.” 😅

Let the wave pass.

📵 No Texting

I don’t care how good the message sounds in your head.

👉 It’s not. 😏

Give it 90 seconds.

Half the time you’ll reread it and go:

👉 “…absolutely not.” 🤣

🚫 No Reacting

No side comments.
No tone.
No passive-aggressive anything.

👉 You are not auditioning for chaos. 😅

🧾 No Decisions

Do not make life decisions in emotional moments.

That’s how people:

  • quit things impulsively
  • say things they can’t take back
  • create problems they now have to solve

👉 We are not doing that anymore. 😌

💛 The Truth

(slightly annoying, very necessary 😅)

👉 You don’t need less emotion.

👉 You need better timing.

Because emotions pass.

But reactions?

👉 those leave evidence. 😅

Now you’re not just feeling something…

👉 you’re dealing with the consequences too.

So next time you feel that wave?

👉 Pause.

Let it move through you.

And remind yourself:

👉 “I don’t have to act on this… just because I felt it.”

🌿 Closing Mantra

“I can feel this…
without acting on it.

I can pause…
without losing myself.

This moment will pass—
I don’t need to make it bigger.

I choose to respond…
not react.

I choose peace…
even when my emotions are loud.” 💛

And honestly?

👉 that one skill alone…
will save you from a LOT of unnecessary drama. 😏🔥
