(a.k.a. Why You’re Exhausted Even on “Easy” Days)
Let’s clear something up immediately:
You do not have to be in danger
for your body to be convinced you are absolutely, unquestionably,
✨ one inconvenience away from collapse ✨
You can be:
…and still feel like one mildly passive-aggressive email might push you into the sea.
That’s not weakness.
That’s not “being dramatic.”
👉 That’s survival mode with a decent resume.
Survival mode does not mean:
It means your body quietly decided:
“Okay. Things feel… pressured.
Let’s not relax. Ever. Just in case.”
Once that switch flips, your system prioritizes:
This is fantastic if you’re being chased by a tiger.
Less helpful when the “tiger” is:
👉 Your body does not know the difference.
Tiger is tiger. 🐅
Survival mode isn’t always panic attacks and crying in parking lots.
Sometimes it looks like:
You might:
From the outside:
“Wow, you’re handling so much.”
On the inside:
👉 Your nervous system is sprinting a marathon in steel-toed boots.
This part messes with people.
They think:
“Nothing stressful happened today… so why do I feel like I got hit by a bus?”
Because your body never clocked out.
No lunch break. No PTO. No union.
When you live in survival mode:
Even “easy” days require effort.
So you finally lie down…
and somehow feel more tired.
Which is honestly rude. 😒
Safety mode does not mean:
It means your body believes:
👉 “Nothing terrible is happening right now.”
In safety:
You still have responsibilities.
You still feel feelings.
You still live in reality.
👉 You’re just not bracing for impact every five minutes.
Here’s the weird part.
If you’ve lived in survival mode for a long time,
safety can feel uncomfortable.
Quiet feels strange.
Stillness feels awkward.
Calm feels… concerning.
You might think:
No.
👉 It’s your nervous system going:
“Wait… are we allowed to relax?”
Survival mode is loud. 🔊
Safety mode is quiet. 🤫
And if you’ve lived in loud for years,
quiet feels wrong at first.
Most self-help assumes you’re already in safety.
It says:
Your body hears:
👉 “Do more. Try harder. Don’t screw this up.”
And responds with:
absolutely not. 🙃
That’s why you can want change
and still feel stuck.
👉 Your system isn’t sabotaging you.
It’s protecting you the only way it knows how.
Let’s be honest.
A stress-free life does not exist.
That’s a marketing slogan.
The goal is to:
👉 Safety isn’t the absence of problems.
👉 It’s the ability to meet life without flinching.
Before we talk about:
Your body needs to learn one thing:
👉 “I don’t have to fight today.”
Everything else builds on that.
Next, we’ll talk about how people accidentally keep themselves stuck in survival mode
(even while doing all the “right” things).
Spoiler:
👉 It’s not because they’re failing.
👉 It’s because no one taught them how to come back to safety.
And yes—
👉 that part is fixable. 🖤✨
