We talk constantly about wasting money.
We don’t talk nearly enough about wasting attention.
Money can return.
Attention cannot.
Where you repeatedly place your attention slowly shapes your life.
That’s why pleasing everyone is so expensive.
You begin with:
What do I want?
Someone disapproves.
Suddenly:
What will they think?
Then:
How do I explain myself?
Then:
How do I make them understand?
Congratulations.
The supporting character has hijacked production. 😂
This doesn’t mean ignoring advice.
Listen.
Learn.
Consider criticism.
Seek expertise.
Then practice discernment.
Information deserves consideration. It does not automatically deserve authority.
Your attention is one of the most valuable resources you possess.
Spend it accordingly.
🎥 You’ve Seen This Before: Rocky Balboa — Rocky
Rocky cannot control Apollo Creed.
He cannot control the crowd.
He cannot control what people think of him.
What can he control?
Getting up.
Training.
Running another mile.
Taking another punch.
Preparing himself for the day that matters.
That’s why that training montage still works decades later.
We’re not really cheering for a man running up some stairs.
We’re cheering for focused effort.
Rocky shows us something wonderfully unglamorous:
Sometimes changing your life looks like doing the same difficult thing tomorrow that you did today.
Attention becomes repetition. Repetition becomes preparation. Preparation changes what becomes possible.
