(aka⦠nobody is coming to choose your life for you⦠and thatās actually fantastic news š)
Can I tell you somethingā¦
that completely ruined my excuses?
š
Nobody was stopping me.
ā¦
At leastā¦
not anymore.
That one hurt.
Because for yearsā¦
I believed I was waiting for the right moment.
The right opportunity.
The right sign.
The right amount of confidence.
The right amount of money.
The right amount of certainty.
Turns outā¦
I wasnāt waiting for the right moment.
I was waitingā¦
for permission.

šŖŖ The Invisible Permission Slip
Have you noticed how often we wait for someoneā¦
to tell us weāre allowed?
Allowed to change careers.
Allowed to leave.
Allowed to rest.
Allowed to say no.
Allowed to charge more.
Allowed to be different.
Allowed to be happy.
Allowed to disappoint people.
Allowedā¦
to become ourselves.
š
The funny part?
Nobody remembers handing out those permission slips.
We just quietly assumedā¦
someone else was in charge.
š The Adultiest Thing About Being an Adult
When I was littleā¦
I thought adulthood looked amazing.
You can eat cake for breakfast.
Go to bed whenever you want.
Buy whatever you want.
No one tells you what to do.
š¤£
Then I became an adultā¦
and realizedā¦
we still spend half our lives asking,
āIs this okay?ā
āDo you think this is a good idea?ā
āWhat if people donāt approve?ā
Apparentlyā¦
the biggest surprise about adulthoodā¦
is discovering thereās no principalās office.
Nobody is calling you inā¦
to approve your life choices.
š
šŖ Waiting Is Still a Decision
This one surprised me.
I used to thinkā¦
waitingā¦
was neutral.
Itās not.
Waiting is a decision.
Not decidingā¦
is a decision.
Staying where you areā¦
is a decision.
Sometimesā¦
doing nothingā¦
changes your life just as muchā¦
as doing something.
The difference isā¦
one happens intentionally.
The otherā¦
happens by default.
š§ Your Brain Loves Committees
Have you ever noticedā¦
how your brain likes to hold meetings?
š¤£
You make one decisionā¦
and suddenlyā¦
everyone has an opinion.
Your childhood.
Your parents.
Your fears.
Your inner critic.
That one embarrassing thing from 2009.
Some random comment someone made three years ago.
Theyāre all sitting around the conference tableā¦
voting on your future.
Meanwhileā¦
the actual CEOā¦
hasnāt said a word.
š
At some pointā¦
the meeting has to end.
The CEO has to stand upā¦
and make the decision.
ā¤ļø Freedom Feels Weird
Hereās something nobody warned me about.
Freedomā¦
doesnāt always feel exciting.
Sometimesā¦
it feels terrifying.
Because once you realizeā¦
you get to chooseā¦
you also realizeā¦
you canāt blame everyone else anymore.
Ouch.
š
Thatās not punishment.
Thatās ownership.
And ownershipā¦
is where peace quietly begins.
š± Your Life Is Asking a Different Question
For yearsā¦
life asked,
āCan you survive?ā
Nowā¦
itās asking,
āWhat would you love to build?ā
Those are completely different conversations.
One is driven by fear.
The otherā¦
by possibility.
š The GPS Analogy
Imagine getting into your carā¦
turning on the GPSā¦
and when it asks,
āWhere would you like to go?ā
You answerā¦
āI donāt knowā¦
somewhere everyone else approves of.ā
š¤£
The GPS would probably respond,
āIām going to need a little more than that.ā
Life works the same way.
You canāt build someone elseās destinationā¦
and expect to arrive at your own.
š ļø Permission Granted
Soā¦
in case youāve been waitingā¦
Here you go.
ā¤ļø
You have permissionā¦
to change your mind.
To outgrow old dreams.
To become interested in new things.
To disappoint expectations.
To rest.
To laugh more.
To build slowly.
To say,
āThis life doesnāt fit me anymore.ā
And most importantlyā¦
you have permissionā¦
to stop asking everyone elseā¦
for permission.
š
šæ Closing Reflection
Ask yourselfā¦
What decision have I already madeā¦
ā¦but keep pretending Iām still thinking about?
And then askā¦
If nobody could approve itā¦
ā¦would I still choose it?
Because thatās usually where your truth lives.
Not in the applause.
Not in the criticism.
Not in the opinions.
In the quiet momentā¦
when itās just youā¦
and your own heart.
Nobody is comingā¦
to officially begin your life.
Good.
Because youāve spent enough yearsā¦
waiting outside a doorā¦
that was never locked.
