(aka⌠just because youâre wearing a life jacket doesnât mean youâre still drowning đ)
Letâs start with an uncomfortable question.
âŚ
What ifâŚ
the emergency is overâŚ
but your body never got the memo?
đ
Because thatâs what survival does.
It teaches your nervous system one very important lesson:
âStay ready.â
Ready for disappointment.
Ready for rejection.
Ready for bad news.
Ready for the next problem.
ReadyâŚ
for everything.
Except peace.
â¤ď¸
đ Survival Is an Incredible Teacher
(Just⌠not a great roommate.)
Survival taught you things that saved your life.
Be careful.
Think ahead.
Read the room.
Donât trust too quickly.
Always have a backup plan.
A backup plan for the backup plan.
And maybeâŚ
just one more backup plan.
đ¤Ł
Honestly?
Your anxiety deserves a promotion.
That little overachiever has been working overtime for years.
đ The Problem
Swimming is exhausting.
And somewhere along the wayâŚ
you stopped asking,
âAm I still in the ocean?â
Because swimming becameâŚ
normal.
You got so good at survivingâŚ
that surviving became your personality.
People even complimented you for it.
âYouâre so strong.â
âI donât know how you do it.â
âYouâre always holding everything together.â
MeanwhileâŚ
you were one minor inconvenience away from emotionally filing for bankruptcy.
đ
đď¸ The Shore Feels Weird
Hereâs something nobody warns you about.
Reaching the shoreâŚ
can feel scarier than the ocean.
At least in the oceanâŚ
you knew the rules.
Keep swimming.
Donât stop.
Donât think.
Just survive.
Now?
Youâre standing on solid groundâŚ
and your brain is like:
âSoâŚâ
ââŚshould we panic anyway?â
đ¤Ł
Your nervous system doesnât immediately trust peace.
It interrogates it.
âThis feels suspicious.â
âWhatâs the catch?â
âSomething bad is probably about to happen.â
Your body isnât trying to ruin your happiness.
Itâs trying to protect youâŚ
using outdated instructions.
đ§ Survival Isnât Your Identity
This part matters.
Read it twice if you need to.
You are not âthe strong one.â
You are not âthe fixer.â
You are not âthe responsible one.â
You are not âthe one who always holds everything together.â
Those are roles.
Not identities.
Thereâs a difference.
Because when survival becomes your identityâŚ
rest starts feeling like laziness.
Receiving love feels uncomfortable.
Asking for help feels embarrassing.
And joyâŚ
almost feels irresponsible.
Which is a terrible business model for a human.
đ
đą The Strange Part About Healing
Healing doesnât ask you to become someone new.
It asks you to stop carrying someone you no longer need to be.
That feelsâŚ
surprisingly emotional.
Because survival protected you.
You donât hate that version of yourself.
You thank them.
They got you here.
But they donât have to keep driving.
Imagine hiring a firefighterâŚ
and asking them to make breakfast every morning.
Theyâre incredible at emergencies.
Terrible choice for pancakes.
đ¤Ł
Survival is the same.
It knows how to save your life.
It doesnât always know how to enjoy it.
đ Swimming Was the SkillâŚ
Living is the goal.
You donât win life by becoming the worldâs best swimmer.
You win by eventuallyâŚ
getting out of the water.
Feeling the sand beneath your feet.
Looking around.
And realizingâŚ
you donât have to keep kicking your legs just because thatâs what kept you alive yesterday.
The ocean served its purpose.
NowâŚ
the shoreline is asking something different.
NotâŚ
âCan you survive?â
ButâŚ
âCan you stay?â
â¤ď¸
đż Closing Reflection
Take a moment.
Ask yourselfâŚ
Where am I still swimmingâŚ
âŚeven though Iâm already standing on solid ground?
Maybe itâs your relationships.
Maybe itâs your work.
Maybe itâs your thoughts.
Maybe itâs your need to prove yourself.
Whatever it isâŚ
you donât have to throw yourself back into the oceanâŚ
just because itâs familiar.
SometimesâŚ
the bravest thing youâll ever doâŚ
is believe the shore is real.

One response to “SECTION ONE: LEAVING SURVIVAL MODE – guide 6”
âYouâre standing on solid groundâŚ
and your brain is like:
âSoâŚâ
ââŚshould we panic anyway?â – This is so funny to me because of how accurate it is đđ¤Ł
Iâve worked really hard to get to a place where Iâm actually okay⌠but sometimes I still catch myself waiting for something to go wrong. Like Iâm still swimming when Iâm already on the shore.
This reminded me that I donât always have to be the strong one. I donât have to have everything figured out or be ready for the next problem.
I can just breathe. I can rest. I can enjoy the life Iâve worked so hard for without constantly worrying that something is about to ruin it.
Thank you for the reminder đ¤
