(aka⌠sometimes people donât miss you⌠they miss the version of you that made their life easier đ )
Letâs start with a sentenceâŚ
that might sting a little.
â¤ď¸
SometimesâŚ
people donât miss you.
They missâŚ
the version of youâŚ
that never said no.
âŚ
Ouch.
đ
đŞ âYouâve Changed.â
Have you ever noticedâŚ
how often those words show upâŚ
the moment you start respecting yourself?
âYouâve changed.â
âYouâre different.â
âYou used to be so easygoing.â
âYou used to have more time.â
âYouâve become distant.â
Maybe.
Or maybeâŚ
you stopped abandoning yourselfâŚ
to make everyone else comfortable.
Thereâs a difference.
â¤ď¸
đ The Backpack Test
Imagine youâve been carrying everyoneâs backpacks for years.
Your familyâs.
Your friendsâ.
Your coworkersâ.
Your neighborsâ.
The random stranger who somehow made their bad day your responsibility.
đ¤Ł
Then one dayâŚ
you put them down.
SuddenlyâŚ
people start looking aroundâŚ
wondering why their shoulders feel heavier.
Not because you did something wrong.
Because they got used to you carrying the weight.
That doesnât make them bad people.
It makes themâŚ
human.
đ§ Expectations Are Comfortable
Hereâs something I had to learn.
People donât just get attached to us.
They get attachedâŚ
to their expectations of us.
They expect:
youâll always answer.
Youâll always help.
Youâll always forgive.
Youâll always say yes.
Youâll always fix it.
Youâll always absorb the awkwardnessâŚ
so nobody else has to.
Then one dayâŚ
you donât.
And suddenlyâŚ
everyone thinks youâve changed.
đ
No.
The expectations just stayed the same.
đ The Role You Were Cast In
Families are funny.
Not âha-haâ funny.
More likeâŚ
âWe should probably unpack this in therapy.â
đ¤Ł
Every family has roles.
The responsible one.
The funny one.
The peacemaker.
The rebel.
The caretaker.
The invisible one.
The one who keeps the family together.
The problem isâŚ
roles are useful.
Until they become prisons.
Because eventuallyâŚ
you wake up and realizeâŚ
youâre acting in a movieâŚ
you never auditioned for.
đ They May Be Grieving Too
This part changed how I see people.
SometimesâŚ
when someone says,
âI miss the old you.â
What theyâre really saying is,
âI donât know how to relate to this new version yet.â
Thatâs different.
Some people will learn.
Some wonât.
Neither response tells youâŚ
whether you should stop growing.
đą Compatibility Changes
Hereâs something nobody tells you.
When you changeâŚ
compatibility changes.
Not because youâre âbetter.â
Not because theyâre âworse.â
Because youâre no longer solving the same problems together.
Some friendships were built around complaining.
Some relationships were built around rescuing.
Some family dynamics were built around guilt.
When those disappearâŚ
the relationship has to evolve.
OrâŚ
it quietly comes to an end.
That isnât always failure.
SometimesâŚ
itâs graduation.
đâ¤ď¸
đ The Customer Service Version of You
Can I tell you a secret?
Some of us have been walking aroundâŚ
like weâre customer service representativesâŚ
for our own lives.
âThank you for your feedback.â
âIâm sorry you were disappointed.â
âYour complaint is very important to me.â
đ¤Ł
MeanwhileâŚ
nobody asked the actual ownerâŚ
how she was doing.
At some pointâŚ
you have to stop living as the customer service departmentâŚ
and start living as the owner.
Not rude.
Not defensive.
JustâŚ
responsible for your own life.
đż Closing Reflection
If someone tells you,
âI liked the old you betterâŚâ
pause before feeling guilty.
Ask yourself:
Did they love meâŚ
orâŚ
did they love the access they had to me?
Those arenât always the same thing.
And if your growth changes a relationshipâŚ
that doesnât automatically mean you chose the wrong path.
SometimesâŚ
the relationship wasnât ending.
The performance was.
