HUMAN DISCERNMENT

by Yessica Jennings

✨ SECTION TWO: WHO ARE YOU REALLY?

(Meeting Yourself Without the Filters, Roles, or Illusions)

Before we talk about love…

before we discuss choosing a partner…

before we go anywhere near commitment, chemistry, desire, or the “but the sex was amazing” delusion…

We must ask the single most avoided question in the human experience:

“Who am I when nobody is expecting anything from me?” 🤨✨

Not:

•Who you are at work

•Who you are at home

•Who you are with a partner

•Who you are in front of your parents

•Who you are online

•Who you are while impressing, pleasing, performing, or pretending you’re chill 😇

But the raw, unfiltered YOU —

the version of you who isn’t auditioning for love or survival.

Because true self-love begins with self-recognition.

And most of us have never met our own soul without someone else’s fingerprints all over it.

Some of us haven’t seen the real us since age five when someone stole our dinosaur nugget. 🦖💔

⸻

🌱 You Cannot Build Your Life on a “Borrowed Self”

If you don’t know yourself, your partner becomes:

•your mirror

•your compass

•your emotional thermostat

•your identity provider

•your personal Yelp reviewer

•your unofficial therapist (unlicensed, unavailable, and unhelpful) 😭

And that is the birthplace of dependency.

Your partner suddenly becomes:

💔 the parent who tells you who to be

💔 the voice that defines your worth

💔 the standard you measure yourself against

💔 the anchor you cling to while drowning in your own uncertainty

This is how we lose ourselves:

Not through grand betrayals —

but through tiny, daily silences.

The “yeses” you didn’t mean.

The preferences you swallowed like expired vitamins. 🤢

The dreams you postponed “until things calm down” (spoiler: they won’t).

The opinions you muted to stay lovable.

The parts of you you hid because you feared,

“If they see the real me… they’ll leave.”

Self-abandonment is the first breakup,

and it happens long before the relationship ends.

⸻

✨ Defining Your True Self (Finally)

These are the essential questions every human should answer before choosing a partner —

or choosing themselves again.

This is the real relationship work:

the internal one, not the romantic Hunger Games you’ve been training for. 🏹🔥

⸻

🌿 1. What truly brings you joy?

Not what your parents approve of.

Not what your partner prefers.

Not what your culture assigns.

What makes YOU feel alive? ⚡️

If the answer is “peace and silence,” you’re already more healed than the general population.

⸻

🌿 2. What kind of love do you naturally give?

Some love with presence.

Some with words.

Some with humor.

Some with effort.

Some with gifts.

Some with silence and vibes.

Know your natural love currency —

not the one you inherited from emotionally constipated adults. 🙃

⸻

🌿 3. What kind of partnership nourishes your nervous system?

Do you thrive in:

•calm

•passion

•independence

•closeness

•adventure

•stability

•creative freedom

•intellectual connection

Your body knows the truth before your brain writes excuses. 😵‍💫

⸻

🌿 4. What conflict style feels safe for you?

Because everyone is a soulmate during brunch. Compatibility shows up during conflict. 🍳🔥

⸻

🌿 5. What parts of yourself have you dimmed to be acceptable?

This question alone could collapse a generation. 🫠

⸻

🌿 6. Who are you when no one is watching?

Not the curated version.

Not the good-child version.

Not the people-pleasing version.

The real you.

The one with audacity, fire, softness, desires, flaws, brilliance. 💛🔥

⸻

🌿 7. What do YOU believe about love (not inherited beliefs)?

Write it fresh.

From your spirit.

Not your lineage’s survival manual. 📜✨

⸻

✨ Why Knowing Yourself Matters

Once you know who you are:

•You stop choosing partners from loneliness.

•You stop settling out of fear.

•You stop shrinking to fit someone else’s story.

•You stop expecting someone to rescue you from your own life.

•You stop confusing attention with love.

•You stop disappearing in relationships and calling it devotion.

You become whole.

And whole people choose differently —

from truth, not wounds.

Whole people aren’t impressed by crumbs. 🍞🚫

Whole people don’t audition for love.

Whole people walk away from chaos like it’s on clearance. ✨🛍️

⸻

✨ Before Love, Meet Yourself

This is the real beginning of Guide 3:

Not love.

Not romance.

Not partnership.

But identity.

Because if you don’t know who you are,

you’ll keep choosing people who tell you —

and lose yourself in the process.

And My Love…

You were never meant to be a supporting character in someone else’s story.

You are the plot twist.

The main character.

The revelation.

The origin. 💫🔥
